Summer heat and humidity will continue through Wednesday. Look for upper 80s to lower 90s in the Piedmont with upper 70s and lower 80s for the Mountains.
A cold front will move through NC Wednesday. Behind this boundary, a broad area of high pressure will bring drier air, and a good stretch of days with cooler highs and pleasant overnight low temps. We'll need to track a possible tropical system off the coast of FL, the next few days. It could radically alter the late week hopes of sunshine, and bring about increased cloud cover and tropical moisture.
A disturbance currently to the north and east of the Bahamas has the potential to undergo some tropical development later this week as it tracks towards the southern tip of Florida. The National Hurricane Center has given it a 40% chance for cyclone formation over the next 5 days.
