Perez Williams wins Syracuse Democratic mayoral primary
Juanita Perez Williams claimed victory Tuesday night in the Democratic primary election for Syracuse mayor.
With all districts reporting, unofficial results had Perez Williams winning 52.13 percent of the vote, ahead of challengers Joe Nicoletti (33.98 percent) and Marty Masterpole (9.73 percent).
"Thank you ... for helping me do this," Perez Williams said to supporters Tuesday night. "Not for me, not for a title, but for the people of this city that are waiting for hope, waiting for someone that will hear them."
Though he came up short in the primary, Nicoletti says he has no regrets about his campaign. He says he hasn't changed his mind about the issues facing the city, including education, public safety, code enforcement and unemployment.
